This painting came from a conversation I had with my elder Uncle Roy Barker some 12 years ago.
Uncle Roy spoke to me about the River and its flow Uncle Roy said when the river was in flood it would flow deep and the current would carry all with it.
He pointed out that along the banks it would slow till it came to a stop, then it would eventually turn and flow up stream. Uncle Roy spoke of our people and their skills of observation. He spoke of how we noticed all & employed that knowledge for the physical existence. He mentioned the warrior who placed their canoes at the edge of the river and with very little effort would find themselves up river.
We saw the physical & learnt the deeper story. There is always room for those with integrity & values to find there way in a river flowing strongly in opposition. We just got to read the water.
