Mu-raay Djeripi (Peter Mulcahy) is the Resident Arist and Owner of Gaiungan Gallery Studio of Fine Art
This accomplished Aboriginal artist is committed to culture, while his signature fine lines, exquisite attention to detail and deep and stirring stories, continue to set him apart.
Mu-raay Djeripi is a Gamilaroi man, his family originated from the area around Mungindi & Thalon on the Queensland NSW border. 33 years as a professional artist and his many years of learning from elders, has developed him into a modern man that breathes life and relevance back into the Ancient stories of the Dreaming. His new contemporary art works reflect the old in the new, the Ancient in the now.
Mu-raay Djeripi Ngaar Mirringama are the traditional names gifted by his father “Bill Bulgai Mulcahy”, Elder Uncle Paddy Djerpi Jerome & Elder Uncle Paul Spearim. These names given, translate to White Cockatoo (The Storyteller), Free-Flying Spirit (the Uniter of Tribes), Strong Jagged Spear (Sharpened Integrity).
Mu-raay Djeripis’ passion is infectious. At the core of all he paints, writes and speaks, is the desire to reach his audience with teachings and knowledge gained from Elders and Spirit.
Mu-raay’s use of permission granted Dreaming stories, excitingly allows him to celebrate his fine line art creations in a diverse array of unique styles. These styles include a collection of Dreamtime, Waketime, Historical, Indigenous Knotting, and Traditional Symbolic Art. This allows the artist a full spectrum of choice in creating his cultural visions.
