This creation depicts a diverse range of flowering natives. This work is one of reconciliation towards new Australians.
The painting explains the story of the first Europeans and their view of a land lacking in plants, animals, water and humanity. This land and its occupants was a far cry from that of England.
You who stand in front of my work today are not them. You see with more Australian eyes. This land had begun its shaping and making of you. Your roots sink deeper every generation and the land on which you stand whispers to you.
You see beauty always there, but out of the spectrum of visions of the first Europeans. You, like my people, are made more Australian every day.
My people covered this land like wildflowers. My admiration for them cannot be so quietly written or painted.
