A traditional dreaming story of my Gamilaroi nation, given with permission by elder Uncle Paul Sperrim.
This story in short is of two beings, one Gurriya (a shaper & destroyer) our rainbow serpent. As Gurriya cur and moves his way across and through Gamilaroi lands he left great distinction in his reshaping. Waraba on the other hand was described as a great warrior, attributed to him was great speed, agility, and strength.
The great father – Budjarr (fathers…..
The creator of all & from who all things come asked Waraba if he would give up his great skills of speed & agility to instead carry upon his back a shell. Upon it he would gather all the lores of Gamil and the lands neighbouring, he was also asked to settle & restore the damage created by garriya .
Waraba would eventually return to his own lands to bring back to gamilaroi the songs lores dance & ways of our neighbours, making Gamilaroi creator.
